Today I went to the east of the island, to Morant Bay. This was for a youth consultation. It was a delightful day and I have lots of pics. I will post them and write about it tomorrow, but for now, here’s a quick and heartwarming story.
One of the youth who has gone through Youth Opportunities Unlimited was a delegate at the consultation today. He is about 19 and a close family member passed away a couple of months ago. Cancer took this family member in the slow and terrible way that it does. Nobody should have to deal with that, let alone someone just starting out in the world, at a time in their lives when everything is exciting and family should provide a safe refuge. He has also been in a training program for a job that involves long days and challenging physical labour. We did not have time to talk during the day so on the bus ride home (he was on the other bus) I sent him a text and asked him how he has been. Here is his response:
“I’m doing well. I have 2 months of on the job training left. And God is giving me the strength to hold on no matter what happens.”
