Cuso Volunteering Day for Development

On Dec. 6, Cuso International’s Jamaica office held a Volunteering Day for Development. Organized by Cuso volunteer Erin MacLeod, the day was a chance for potential partners to learn more about what Cuso does in Jamaica. It was very well-attended and the audience engaged up until the end. We had two guest speakers: new Canadian High Commissioner Robert Ready and a University of West Indies professor named Dr. K’nIfe. The High Commissioner, who arrived in Jamaica right before Hurricane Sandy hit, spoke about Cuso and its 50-year history in Jamaica, while Dr. K’nIfe discussed social entrepreneurship. His was a fascinating talk in that he approached Jamaica’s criminal families, like Dudus Coke’s, from a social entrepreneurship point of view. It was a successful day and hopefully Cuso will forge new partnerships with local Jamaican partners.
