Last year, Snoop (formerly Dogg) Lion visited Jamaica. Apparently, he had been reincarnated as Bob Marley. There will never be another Bob Marley. Jamaica continues to search for one, even pushing forward some of his children at times and anointing other artists at times. But no one comes close.

Although, it seems that when enough money is involved, Mr. Marley’s spirit enters the body of a rapper from Los Angeles who has lived anything but a Rastafarian lifestyle for most of his years on earth. The Marley family endorsed Snoop’s reincarnation last year and accompanied him as he toured Jamaica. He smoked some weed, participated in ceremonies and made a video with some European producers at a swanky studio up north.

Now, some original members of the Wailers have objected to this travesty. They are threatening legal action and have written a seven page letter to Snoop Lion. Check out the story here. The rest of the world has always loved and co-opted Jamaican culture, especially the great Bob Marley. But for some reason, Snoop’s reincarnation is particularly offensive (to me, at least, as well as to Mr. Marley’s original colleagues and co-creators).
