This morning I awoke at 3:50 to prepare for my fourth half-marathon race. Cuso International’s Jamaica team competed in the Kingston City Run, and Erin and I ran the half while the rest of the group ran or walked the 5K. The race itself was quite brutal as it was uphill for about three-quarters of it. Luckily, I am used to these hills by now, as well as the heat and unpredictable sidewalks.
It was a great race and not too many people competed in the half (less than 200). So for parts of the race I was running alone, save for the young Boy Scout volunteers in their navy blue and yellow uniforms pointing us the right way with signs reading “Keep going!” I felt amazing through the entire race and managed to get a kick for the last 5K so that I beat my personal best time by five minutes.
Congratulations to the entire Cuso team and thanks to everyone for cheering Erin and I on at the finish line. Pictures to come.
