This article does not mention any Jamaican farm workers, but it is a problem that affects Jamaicans, probably disproportionately. My post on Friday was a documentary on this subject.
This New York Times covers the issue of Canadian farm workers, mostly Mexicans, and the unfair treatment they receive at the hands of the government. I have always wondered about this- how can a country that considers itself so progressive basically employ people in slavery-like conditions? Canada embraces immigrants into its social security system, why do migrant workers not count? Is it because they do not stay? They provide a valuable service. There have been no forthcoming responses to date.
