The eclipse will be visible in Jamaica today close to 1pm. The Ministry of Health put out a warning for people, but other than that, life goes on as usual, especially after the lack of hit from Tropical Storm Harvey.
This is the view from my office window. Tropical Storm Harry is supposed to start moving in today, and indeed, it has, with some rain and strong winds. The worst is supposed to come on Sunday.
In honor of Josey Wales, who will receive an Order of Distinction (Officer Rank) from the government in October.

This article does not mention any Jamaican farm workers, but it is a problem that affects Jamaicans, probably disproportionately. My post on Friday was a documentary on this subject.
This New York Times covers the issue of Canadian farm workers, mostly Mexicans, and the unfair treatment they receive at the hands of the government. I have always wondered about this- how can a country that considers itself so progressive basically employ people in slavery-like conditions? Canada embraces immigrants into its social security system, why do migrant workers not count? Is it because they do not stay? They provide a valuable service. There have been no forthcoming responses to date.
This is heart-breaking. It is a documentary by a London filmmaker about a Jamaican man who hides his terminal cancer from his family. He works six months of the year in Canada as a migrant farm worker.
This is a good article from the Globe and Mail about the use of patois in Toronto. Check it out here.
Well, this is cool. Annie Paul, a Jamaica Gleaner columnist and editor at the University of the West Indies, wrote a column about the community journalism program we are just wrapping up. We had a lovely meeting a couple of weeks ago and this is the result. Thanks so much Annie. Check it out here.

Yesterday was a holiday so it was a pool day. We had a swim and checked out the bar menu.
