This is a little late, but check out Usain Bolt’s video for Gifted, from sponsor Digicel, where he is Chief Speed Officer.

This week marks the celebration of Journalism Week in Jamaica. The nation continues to enjoy a relatively free press, which is cause for celebration, and quality journalism continues to be produced, in the form of investigative programs from 18 Degrees North, as I’m permitting myself to indulge in some shameless self-promotion. I will be a part of a panel on Education and New Media this Friday, as part of the University of Technology’s faculty, along with the Dean of Faculty and Liberal Education Studies, Dr Rohan Lewis, and another member. It is from 4-6 pm should you wish to stop by UTech’s campus.
Prince Harry visited Jamaica almost five years ago. He is set to visit the Caribbean again this week: the Realms of Antigua & Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Barbados, as well as visiting Guyana on behalf of the Foreign Office, according to the Royals’ official web site. He will give Jamaica a miss this time. In light of this, an interesting piece in the Guardian today, as the debate about reparations continues. Check it out here. The conversation seems to be gaining more mainstream attention, with the election of U.S. president-elect Donald Trump, as well as the fact that Prince Harry is dating a woman who identifies as “half-black,” Meghan Markle.
Vybz Kartel continues to deny that he is making music from behind bars. And under mysterious circumstances this week, he was moved to the Tower Street Adult Correctional Facility. There is a recording studio there so prisoners can put their energy to creative use. Perhaps Kartel will now be allowed to record and release some “recent” music. This video was released a couple of weeks ago.

It is my turn to hold onto the plaque we won for the 18 Degrees North story we worked on last year on street youth with Global Reporters for the Caribbean. We are working on the new season, which is set to launch in the next few weeks. Stay Tuned!
This is a few days late, but Vogue magazine has featured the “Gully Queens” as part of a story on RAY BLK’s new video. The British artist featured the transgender youth in her latest video, which was shot up in Portland. She secured designer clothes for them and created some beautiful images. People associated with the shoot have also launched a Gofundme campaign, in addition to the Colour Pink Foundation’s effort, which seems to be stalled, unfortunately.

This was the gorgeous view during the UWI 5K yesterday. It was my first race post-baby and my time was shockingly good, considering I started 10 minutes late and that I spent the first couple of minutes shepherding children. My neighbor pushed my daughter in the stroller and I ran with some children from the community of Maxfield Avenue that she had brought at the beginning of the race. The children had promised they could run the entire course, but alas, their enthusiasm waned after a few minutes and they started walking together. I forged on, so fast (for me) that I thought the course was a kilometer short when I saw my time. In any case, it was good to be back out there, not taking my fitness for granted and able to enjoy this unique and gorgeous view.
